This page scores broadening tops and broadening bottoms chart patterns. Patterns with scores above 0 show gains averaging 38% (upward breakouts) or declines averages 23% (downward breakouts). Scores below 0 show gains of 21% and declines of 11%. High scores do not guarantee good performance, nor does a low score mean you found a stinker.

 

Scoring Broadening Tops and Bottoms

Please provide the following information:

What is the highest price in the chart pattern?

What is the lowest price in the chart pattern?

What is the highest price for the stock over the last 52 weeks?

What is the lowest price for the stock over the last 52 weeks?

How many shares of stock are outstanding?

What is the (anticipated) breakout price (use trendline pierce price)?

What direction is the breakout?
Up Down

Trend start: How long is the price trend leading to the start of the chart pattern?
0-3 months 3-6 months Over 6 months

Horizontal consolidation region: Skip if breakout is downward. Is overhead resistance in the way of price movement?
Yes No

Volume trend: Skip if breakout is downward. Is volume trending up or down in the chart pattern?
Up Down

Breakout volume: Is breakout volume above the 30-day average? If no breakout yet, answer No.
Yes No

Partial rise or decline: Does the pattern show a partial rise or partial decline?
Yes No

Market trend: Is the general market trending up or down?
Up Down
